Space, the final front-here

The H.R. Macmillan Space Centre has been traveling across northern B.C. providing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning opportunities.

They stopped off in town for the recent Kitimat LNG open house and brought a portable planetarium with them, which has been visiting schools all across the north over the past school year.

“With the help of Chevron Kitimat LNG we have been able to visit over 10,000 students in the last two years,” said Centre programmer Trish Pattison.

The Centre staff also encouraged kids to explore the new STEM learning tool Ozobots., which read colour and behave much like a computer that kids program themselves.

Each colour instructs the Ozobot to perform actions, to spin like a tornado or perform a backwards moon walk.

The Centre will be back in Kitimat on July 13 at the Kitimat Public Library, from 1 p.m., and parents are encouraged to register their kids for this free event by calling 250-632-8985.
