The Kitimat Midget Rep Winterhawks participated in the Jim Lindsay Memorial Tournament held in Maple Ridge with championship results.

A total of six teams participated in the Tier 3 level which ran the weekend of February 1 to 3. In addition to Kitimat, there were teams from South Okanagan, Ridge Meadows (Maple Ridge), Aldergrove, Vancouver (Washington), and Kent Valley (Washington).

The Round Robin tournament started off Friday morning with Kitimat playing against Ridge Meadows – the game ended in a 4 - 3 win for our Hawks.

Later on that afternoon Kitimat would go up against Kent Valley, a game which they won with an overwhelming majority – the final score was 11 - 0. Kitimat would end the first day of the tournament with two wins under their wings.

The second day of the event saw Kitimat going up against the team from South Okanagan. This game appeared to be more of a challenge for the Hawks and ended up in a 2 - 2 tie.

At the end of the second day, both Kitimat and South Okanagan finished with two wins and a tie. The Kitimat Winterhawks however still placed first in the standings due to a goal difference of 12 compared with South Okanagan’s goal difference of only 7.

With a first-place Round Robin finish, Kitimat would play against Aldergrove in the semi-finals.

The semi-final game against Aldergrove was scheduled the next morning at 7 a.m. This early morning start time appeared to have no effect on our Hawks – after all, the early bird always gets the win. The result from that match was 8 - 2.

This semi-final win against Aldergrove placed the Winterhawks in the championship game against one of the tougher teams they faced earlier in the tournament – South Okanagan.

The championship game puck drop was at 1 p.m. at Planet Ice Arena. Knowing that this was the team that previously ended in a tie game, the Winterhawks knew that this was not going to be an easy fly-by.

In the end it was an edge-of-the-seat-style game with a final score of 3 - 2 and a championship win for our Winterhawks.
