The Kitimat Marlins attended the Northwest Regional Championship swim meet in Terrace the January 29-30 weekend and had some impressive results.
A total of 24 swimmers from the Marlins were in attendance - eight were in their first or second swim meet ever and had lots of fun in their first competition experience.
The Marlins showed their overall strength for girl swimmers taking first place in both the 11-12 and 13-14 year old freestyle and medley relays.
Two more swimmers achieved their first AAA Provincial qualifying times allowing them to attend the AAA championships in Victoria in March.
Daphne Howell (13) achieved her first AAA qualifying time in the 100 metre breaststroke. Her time was also fast enough to qualify her for the 14-year-old girls time standard in the event for the future.
Howell also took home the silver medal in overall points for the 13-14 girls division.
Also achieving his first AAA time was Arthur Firmino (17) in the 16 and over 200 metre breaststroke. Firmino achieved the standard by taking a whopping 12 seconds off his previous personal best time in this eight length race.
Firmino achieved personal best times in all eight of his individual races.
They will join Kyler Cordeiro (15) at the provincials. It will be all three swimmers first AAA Provincial Championships.
Other medalists were Paige Collier (12) gold and Kleanza Cathers(11) bronze in the girls 11-12 division.
Cathers also achieved 100 per cent personal best times in all eight of her events.
Kleanza and Paige will join Danika Howell (11) at the AA Provincial Championships a few weeks from now in Chilliwack.
The largest improvement was by Robyn Alderman (14). She took an amazing 1 minute and 28 seconds off her 800 metre freestyle (32 lengths of the pool).
Her old time was from the Prince Rupert swim meet held in October.
Other swimmers who did the tough task of achieving 100 per cent personal best times were Alivia Salema (10) and Katherine Ocsovai(11).
