The Snow Valley Skating Club travelled to Quesnel for the CNC Regional Championships from January 18 to 20 and came home dressed in gold!
Almost the entire team travelled to Quesnel on a bus that was sponsored by LNG Canada. Head Coach Cynthia Medeiros said that LNG Canada was committed to the safety of the skaters and their sponsorship for the bus allowed many more skaters to attend as parents were more comfortable travelling this way.
Skaters from Terrace and Prince Rupert also travelled on the bus and there wasn’t a single seat left. We are so thankful for their support.
The skaters from the club did very well and although there is no prize for the top club we felt like this was one of our best results as a team. Many skaters have moved up to harder categories and they really pushed themselves and had some great results bringing home nine medals and a pile of ribbons!
Big congratulations go Aliyah Goncalves and Christine Ferreira who both had clean long programs that brought the house down and won their event and the title of regional champion.
Christine Ferreira won gold in the Star 8 category after taking the silver the day before in Star 7 which is the short program. Aliyah Goncalves won the Star 10 event after placing 4th in her short.
Some other highlights were Diana Mae Empinado winning gold in Star 8/9 Solo Dance, Aliyah Goncalves and Ava Galante winning gold in the gold Ladies Duet Interpretive, Diana Mae Empinado winning gold in the Star 7/8 Elements event.
Aliyah Goncalves was awarded a second in silver Ladies Interpretive, and Ava Galante and Christine Ferreira won bronze in silver Ladies Interpretive.
A big thanks goes out to Coaches Cynthia Medeiros and Mikaela Carreiro that travelled with the team and all the rest of the on and off ice staff that helped to prepare the skaters. The Quesnel Club did a great job running the competition and everyone really enjoyed staying downtown and exploring all that Quesnel had to offer.
