Stuart Hayward Mackay
August 23, 1928 - April 2, 2013
Stuart Hayward Mackay (84), of Kitimat, BC, died April 2, 2013, after prolonged ill health. Stuart was born August 23, 1928, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Cameron and Velma (Brown) Mackay.
The family moved to Nova Scotia soon afterwards and Stuart completed his elementary and secondary education there.
He then moved to British Columbia where he met and married Anita Hadland on June 6, 1951. Stuart moved to Kitimat in October of 1953 where he was employed at the Kemano site. He then worked as a Steam Engineer for Alcan in Kitimat for fourteen years, raising 6 children: Craig, Heather (Kelsey), Derrill, Grant, Holly (Wassink) and Glenda (Cameron). Son ,Grant, preceded his father after a long battle with cancer.
In addition to his children, Stuart leaves his siblings; Joan, Harley and Karen; Cousin Baxter, and grandchildren: Marcus, Jason, Andy, Jeremy, Jen, Rhea, Sandra, Carson, Ross, Nathan, Dustin, Dawn, Danny, Angela, Daniel, Evan and Lilly.
Stuart enjoyed hockey and playing chess at competition levels. An avid reader of nonfiction, Stuart loved acquiring new knowledge and skills. Furthermore, during his retirement years, Stuart learnt a new language (Spanish) and spent his winters in Mexico where he made many good friends.
He will be sadly missed.
