Gannon, Shirley Ann

Shirley was born August 22, 1937 in Edmonton Alberta, passed into the arms of our Lord on December 28, 2008 at Prince George Regional Hospital with her immediate family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents Karl and Gerda Holmberg of Chilliwack BC, her brother Rune and his wife Winnie of Mission BC, and her daughter Jo-Anne Louise Wessel of Terrace BC. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Morris (Moe), their three daughters Deborah Lynn Nilsen (Toby), Cynthia Marie Bouthillier (Rick), Caroline Sewell, five sisters, Ruth Brown of Bellingham Wash., Gladys Schucard (Jerry), Doris Halverson (Al), Nancy Smith, all of Abbotsford BC, Alice Dollemore of Houston BC and one brother, Douglas Holmberg (Norma) of Terrace BC. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a “people person” who immensely enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her friends. She developed many friendships while travelling with her husband to Germany, New Brunswick, London and Barrie Ontario, Chilliwack and Victoria BC, during his 20 year military career; in Kitimat during their time there and many more since moving to Prince George 32 years ago. She worked as a school secretary in Sardis and went on to work in various offices of the Forestry Department in Kitimat and Prince George. There were no “strangers” in her life for she spoke to anyone who was nearby. Her life was family, friends and home. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

The family gives special thanks to the nursing staff of the Family Medicine Unit Pod “B” for the care and kindness shown to Shirley during her stay in the hospital. We also thank them for their attention to the family during their visitations. Thanks also to Dr. Daniel Plouffe who cared for her through all of her illnesses over the last 4 years.

A prayer service and celebration of her life was held at St. Mary’s Church, 1088 Gillett St. Prince George BC, on Friday January 2, 2009 at 7 pm and the celebration of her life followed at 10 am on Saturday,

January 3 with Father Richard Beaudette presiding. Cremation to follow. In memory of Shirley, donations made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, the BC Transplant Society or the BC Cancer Society would be appreciated.
