Serafina Linguanti

Serafina passed away peacefully April 3 with her family at her side after a long struggle with cancer. She was a much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Pre-deceased by her husband Giorgio, her sons Libertino and Raymond and her granddaughter Christina, she will be missed by her daughters Joanna, Frances and Nina (Dennis), her son Joe (Shelley), grandchildren Robert, Sarah (Sebastian), Vincent (Selena), Matthew, Giorgio, James, Carmen, her great-grandaughter Sophia and many friends.

Serafina was born in the small Sicilian town of Aragona as the second of eight children. In 1957, with her four young children, she travelled to the new town of Kitimat B.C. to join her husband who had, two years earlier, come to Kitimat to establish a home for his family. Together they raised a family of six children and helped to build the town of Kitimat. She and Giorgio had an active social life in Kitimat and made many life long friends, most of whom she still kept in touch with.

After their retirement in 1986 they moved to Victoria, where she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up. She was happy living in Victoria where the weather is mild and she was able to have close contact with her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for her garden and the fruits of her efforts were enjoyed by friends, neighbours and passers by. Her home was a warm and welcoming place to friends and family.

The kindness and support that our mother received from her friends during this difficult time was deeply appreciated by her and her family.

The family also wishes to acknowledge the efforts and compassion of all the staff and the many volunteers at Victoria Hospice.

Our heartfelt gratitude and many thanks.
