Philip James Mattern

June 27, 2007

In Loving Memory of Philip James Mattern, April 7, 1930 - June 27, 2007. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of my husband, our Dad, Grandpa, brother and uncle.

Philip leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary of 52 years; children Judy (Phillip), Sharon (Guy), Edward (Kelly), son in-law Geordie; grandchildren Lynsey (Craig), Trevor, Jamie, Nathan, Amy, Cody and Aaron; sister Mina (Ed) Peltz of Warren, Manitoba; sister in-laws Dorothy Budge of Inwood, Manitoba, Irene and Alma Broustal of Ashern, Manitoba, Ileen Williams of Edmonton, Alberta and Auntie Lizzie Budge of Ashern, Manitoba; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter Sandra, grandson Shawn, parents Phillip and Barbara; brothers Ernest and Charles, sisters Barbara and Dorothy. Philip was born in Woodlea, Manitoba and spent his younger years working on the farm in the Dog Lake area before moving to Kitimat in 1956.

He started working at the Public Works Yard as a Labourer and made his way up to Heavy Equipment operator, a job that he enjoyed very much, until his retirement in 1992. Philip was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and friend to all. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and socializing with his friends, especially ‘Norm’. A memorial service was held July 3, 2007 at the Kitimat Rod and Gun Club with Rev. Don Holmes officiating. He will always be remembered in our hearts, Never to be forgotten.
