September 15, 1945 - December 10, 2024
In loving memory ~
Paul John MacGregor, born September 15, 1945, was raised on Vancouver Island and later moved to Kitimat, where he worked for the District of Kitimat until he retired. He took pride in maintaining the ice at Tamitik and Kitimat Ice Rinks and the grounds at Radley and Hirsch Creek Parks.
Paul was a soft-hearted soul, often recognized by his signature smirk and his beloved 'Grumpy Old Man' hat. His unwavering devotion to his wife Mary during her long battle with MS was a touching testament to the vow "in sickness and in health." The love Paul and Mary shared remains a powerful and inspiring legacy, cherished by their family. Paul delighted in spoiling his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - but none were more pampered than his little dogs, who enjoyed hot meals and the best seats in the house and on the road.
Paul was a people person, always happy to stop and talk, and was loyal and generous beyond measure. He would always do what he could to ensure that family, friends, and neighbors were well taken care of, even if it meant recruiting help to shovel roofs and driveways. His hobbies like woodworking, hook rugs, and duct tape crafting were likely to ensure a steady supply of gifts for family and friends. Even the drives that Paul loved so much were often in service of picking something up for someone, enjoying company, or visiting family up north or down south. Whatever the reason, there was always a bad cup of coffee in the cup holder, a dog on his lap and a good excuse to take the scenic route.
Paul's love for fishing and camping was passed down to his grandchildren, who learned to tie a line, cast, clean, process and smoke fish, to catch everything from trees to trout and do it all with a smile, a grumble and a few choice words. Despite all of life's challenges, Paul remained a goodhearted prankster with a strong sense of humour, laughing and getting others to do the same right to his final days.
Paul passed peacefully on December 10, 2024 surrounded by family. We invite you to honour and remember Paul through a day spent fishing, an evening round the fire, a good laugh, or finding the time to take the scenic route while enjoying a bad cuppa coffee.
