In Loving Memory ~
After a brief illness, in the early hours of December 21, 2022, the Angels came to take Mia To Heaven to be reunited with her husband Tony to whom she was married for 55 years.
Mia was born in Bussum, The Netherlands to Geertruida and Jan Cornelissen. She and Tony immigrated to Canada with their two children, Marianne and Rene in 1957, settling in Kitimat B.C. After 60 years in Kitimat, she relocated with her daughter and son-in-law to Vernon, where she enjoyed the beautiful weather. Her last four years were spent at the Vernon Hamlets, where she enjoyed her reading, word search puzzles, and became the Queen of jigsaw puzzles, often completing two in a week. She loved living there and the staff loved her sharing stories of her work in the Operating Room at the Kitimat General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, and a niece in The Netherlands; her husband Tony in 2004 in Kitimat and her son Rene, in 2022 in Terrace.
She is survived by her daughter Marianne, son-in-law Dennis, daughter-in-law Evelyn, grandsons Kevin, David, Christopher, and Steven, granddaughters Jackie and Heather and their families as well as three nephews and their families in The Netherlands.
She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is the adopted Oma to the Ramsay family, the Atchison family in Langley, and the King family in Kitimat.
She left specific instructions about her funeral and that if she passed in the winter months, she was not to be buried until spring or summer, as winter was too cold. She wanted to be brought back to Kitimat and be buried beside her husband.
Services will be held in Kitimat at the Anglican Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 (their 74th wedding anniversary), followed by a graveside service and tea at the Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, please remember your local Food Bank.
