Luis Bento Borges

November 6, 1935 - June 11, 2025

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Luis Bento Borges. Luis was born in Furnas, Sao Miguel Acores. It is here that he mastered his skills in gardening and love for music and culture. He immigrated to Canada in 1960 and made Kitimat BC his home since 1965. He worked at Alcan, was a faithful member of the church & community and raised a family.

He was a loving husband to his predeceased wife, Maria Lourdes (d. 2021). He was a wonderful father to his four children, Luis (Rose), Paula (Mark), Debbie (Norman) & Lucy (Al), grandfather to eight (Robert, Brandon, Shelby, Cassandra, Desiree, Shaman, Brett & Dylan) and great-grandfather to seven (Lucas, Kaidence, Conner, Emma, Brady, Harper and pre-deceased by Adrian).

He will be remembered as a hard worker, a good man and a great friend with a wonderful sense of humour. With his whistling of music and singing he brought comfort and joy to many. His smile was contagious.

The family would like to thank all care-aids and nurses at Mountain View Lodge and Delta King Place staff who provided great care of our father in his final years. Thank you to Dr. Huang, Dr. Wahl and Dr. Kay for your care of our father in the final days. For the prayers, we thank everyone who took the time to provide our family comfort and faith, especially Fr. Dominic Apaatah of the Catholic Church and Pastor Blake Holenstein of the Pentecostal Assembly. Also, we thank family and friends who have offered condolences and support. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church in Kitimat BC on June 18th at 1PM.
