December 1, 1927 - May 30, 2020
We are saddened to announce the passing of Lucy Schwarz, our Mother, Grandmother and Oma. Lucy leaves behind her brother Hini, her 3 children Ben (Donna), John (Evelyn) and Barb, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Lucy & Henning immigrated to Canada in 1953. Their early years were filled with trials and tribulations as they explored their vast new home. As they moved across the country, they learned of an opportunity to work for a company called Alcan in some place called Kitimat. Henning went ahead to see what it was all about and to determine whether it would be a good place for them to raise their family.
In 1956 Lucy and their children came from Cloverdale to join Henning in the very muddy coastal town of Kitimat, BC. Shortly after arriving in Kitimat, Lucy got a job at The Hudson Bay, she always had a love of shopping and fashion, so it seemed like a natural fit. An opportunity arose to go and do ironing at the Alcan Guest House, so she left The Bay and went to work at the Alcan Guest House. She worked very hard at the Alcan Guest House and eventually worked her way up to the manageress. Lucy loved her job and stayed at the Alcan Guest House until 1985.
When Lucy & Henning retired, they moved to their property on Vancouver Island where they enjoyed many of their golden years together. They had a beautiful garden filled with fruits, vegetables and flowers, they fed the deer and the raccoons and made jams and wine. They created a beautiful property their family loved to visit and had a wonderful life together.
After Henning passed, Lucy moved back to Kitimat to be closer to her family. She spent many hours working in the greenhouse and tending the gardens. She loved to eat fruit and sit outside in the sunshine. In her later years, Lucy moved into the Delta King where she had many friends and loved to play bingo.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Delta King, you became an extension of our family and we are so very grateful for all you have done. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Huang and all of the amazing staff at the Kitimat General Hospital, your kindness made a difficult time more bearable.
Although it is with sad hearts that we say goodbye, we will be forever grateful that we have a lifetime of memories to share.
