In loving memory ~ It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved parents; Mary Joan Correia (Feb 27, 1935 - April 6, 2021) & Jose Marcos Correia (Sept 16, 1929 - Aug 1, 2021).
Jose & Mary came from humble beginnings in San Miguel, Azores. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 settling in Kitimat where they built their wonderful lives & raised their 3 children; Danny (Astrid), Lucia (Jim) & Gordon (Tosh).
Joe, the patriarch of the family worked for Alcan as a supervisor (Joe Banana) for 29 years.
Mary, the matriarch of the family was a strong, hard working woman who not only cared for her family but worked alongside Joe. Together they developed & built Turney Street, as well as several other homes in town.
In 1985 the couple retired & moved to Victoria in 1990 where they found great joy in gardening, winemaking & proudly watching their family grow & thrive.
Joe & Mary will not only live on through their 3 children but also through their 6 wonderful grandsons (Nathan, Mackenzie, Toby, Jesse, Tim & Jaxon) & beautiful granddaughter (Morgan).
These 2 amazing people lived wonderful, long happy lives. Mary ultimately passed away after a long hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 86 in her home surrounded by her family. Joe passed away not quite 4 months later from what can only be described of a broken heart at the age of 91 also at home surrounded by his family.
After spending a lifetime together, mom & dad were once again reunited for what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary on Aug 6, 2021.
As per their wishes they have been cremated & will be put to rest together for eternity.
There will be no formal public ceremony. Instead we ask that when you are gathered for a family meal, raise a glass of wine & make a toast in honor of their memory.
