In loving memory ~
Powell River, BC - It is with sadness we advise that James (Jim) Rankin Muir, 87, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2022.
Jim was born in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1935, the son of Andrew and Marjorie Muir. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce and would go on to work in the field of labour relations in Toronto in the 1950's and then Kitimat B.C. throughout the 60' and 70's.
Jim transitioned to a career with Sun Life Financial which brought him to the lower mainland of BC in the 1980's where he worked well into his 70's before a well deserved retirement. As a young man Jim learned to fly planes and served in the airforce reserves throughout his university years. This led to a life long interest in planes and a final glider flight on his 65th birthday. A bird enthusiast, he supported organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and often recalled his younger years duck hunting in the marshes of Manitoba, grouse hunting in British Columbia and in
later years enjoyed visiting the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, BC. Friends will also remember his love of poetry, keen interest in politics and his strong Christian faith.
Jim was predeceased by his sister Betty and survived by his son Adrian (Tracy) of Powell River, daughter Connie (Stewart) of Toronto, son Wes, (Mary) of Oakville and his cherished grandchildren Elyse, Alexandra, Claire and Matthew, the mother of his children, Frances Muir, and his brother Rod Muir, of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Union Gospel Mission or the Mennonite Central Committee.
