On Sunday, September 29, 2019, Horst Bahls, loving husband and father, passed away at age 89. Horst was born on February 24, 1930 in Anklam, Germany. He married Helga Kitschke on June 6, 1957 and they immigrated to Canada in January 1958. They settled in Kitimat, B.C. where they raised their two children. Horst first worked at Alcan and then became the Meat Manager of the Shop Easy grocery store. They moved to Sandspit, B.C. in 1982, where he was the Meat Manager of the local Super Value grocery store. After retiring in 1988, they moved to Abbotsford, B.C. and he then became a fishing guide for many enjoyable summers on the Skeena River.
Horst was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Helga (2013). He is survived by his daughter Petra Rausch, son Michael (Joanne), granddaughters Natasha (Sam) and Nicole (Grant). His unconditional love for his family and friends, his gentle nature, life-long love of the outdoors, and his passion for sports (Toronto Maple Leafs) are things that will be forever cherished. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Bahls Family would like to express their appreciation to everyone for the thoughtfulness and kindness that has been shown to them during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the amazing staff at the Cottage-Worthington Pavilion in Abbotsford, B.C for the love, kindness and dignity they have shown our father during the last six years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Horst's honour to: Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation. Charitable Registration Number: 87115 6725 RR0001, or to your favourite charity.
"Deeply, I know this, that love triumphs over death. My father continues to be loved, and therefore he remains by my side." - Jennifer Williamson
