IN MEMORY OF Walter Herberle
October 18, 2007
Walter (80) passed away from cancer on October 18, 2007 in Surrey, BC.
He leaves behind a sister in Germany.
Walter lived in Kitimat, worked at Alcan for 36 years, retired in 1990 and moved to Surrey in 1996. His passion with the outdoors saw him spending weekends and holidays bushwhacking up the local mountains and hiking in the Rockies. He is credited as being in the first party to climb Atna Peak (40 km east of Kitimat) in 1963. Many other accomplishments include building one of the first cabins on Clague Mountain in 1961 with his friend George Bier and exploring the Seven Sister area extensively, climbing the second sister (the highest) a total of three times.
Always happy and accommodating,
his footsteps will be retraced by many.
