Helge passed away comfortably with his immediate family by his side on the evening of June 6, 2011. He battled leukemia with acceptance and bravery for many years. His courage and humour made it all much easier for his family and friends.

Helge and his twin brother Arne were born on January 12, 1924 in Graasten, Denmark. As a young man he embarked on an amazing adventure coming to Canada by boat. Arriving on the East Coast, he was welcomed to the country with the offer of a package of Canadian cigarettes by Immigration Canada. He then travelled West by train to the prairies where he worked on a farm and eventually made his way to Vancouver. In Vancouver he was recruited by Alcan, which brought him to Kitimat.

Helge is predeceased by his mother, Bertha, father, Lauritz, and brother Helmut. He is survived by his brother Fritijof and his twin brother Arne; sisters Irene, Milla and Tove (Svenderik); sons Lars (Jenny) and Morgan (Caryn); daughter Sussi (Richard); granddaughters Emma and Taylor; and grandsons Tanner and Aaron.

Dad was not only family to us, but to all the people who loved and supported him at the Delta King for almost four years. We know the residents, staff, home-support and home-nurses were all very dear to him. We appreciate and thank each of you very much.

There will be a Celebration of Helge’s life on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Delta King Place.

In lieu of flowers, please make donation to the Delta King Place in Kitimat, BC
