July 30, 1930 - April 1, 2021
With great sadness, the family of Hans Fuchs announces his passing.
Hans was born July 30, 1930 in Hockenheim Germany. He completed a baking apprenticeship in Germany in 1948; and at the end of the war, he worked for the US army from 1948-1951.
He landed in Halifax NS on Jan. 11, 1952 with little money and unable to speak English. From there, he made his way to Noranda Que. where he got a job in a bakery. He left Noranda in May to head west to Edmonton where his sister, Toni Fuchs, was living.
He stayed with his sister and got a job making concrete blocks. He was eventually hired at McGavin's Bakery in 1954, where he met his future wife Barbara.
They married on June 16, 1956. They had 3 children: Delphene in 1958, Stephen in 1960, and David in 1964.
In 1963, they started their own bakery, the Blue Boy Bakery, but found running a business and raising 3 small children was more than they bargained for. Hans' brother, Willy Fuchs, was living in Kitimat and told him of job prospects at Alcan.
In 1965, Hans started with Alcan and he retired as a welder in 1986. From Kitimat, they went to Summerland, and eventually to Penticton, where he would live out the rest of his life enjoying sunshine, fresh fruit, and watching Penticton junior hockey teams play.
Hans was a kind-hearted father and devoted husband who will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara; children Delphene, Stephen (Donna), David (Kristine); grandchildren David, Andrea, Thomas; great-grandchildren Annalee, Logan, Ashlyn and Parker; and all extended family.
