Gordon Earl Minaker

August 20, 1938 to June 20, 2015

Gordon Earl Minaker, long time Kitimat resident, passed away peacefully at Mountainview Lodge on June 20. He was 76 years old. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Glen and Edna and by his older brother Russell. He is lovingly remembered by his twin brothers Lloyd and Ron, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gordon was born in Rosser, Manitoba on August 20, 1938. He was the second of four sons born to Glen and Edna Minaker. In 1948, the Minaker family left the farm in Rosser and moved to Chilliwack, BC. From there, in 1956, the Minaker family joined other pioneers who settled in Kitimat. Gordon followed in his dad’s footsteps by working in the construction field and was involved in the building of the Kitimat Smelter. Gordon worked in a variety of jobs throughout his life. In his later years he enjoyed having coffee with friends, especially at Pedro’s. Gordon had many friends and was often heard discussing community issues and politics. Many friends and family enjoyed the “Gordon Report” with a nightly or weekly phone call describing these local events. Gordon loved listening to Johnny Cash for hours and hours on end and it brought him comfort in his final days.

The Minaker Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Mountainview Lodge and to Doctors Kay and Skully.

There will be no service by request. Donations may be made in memory of Gordon to Mountainview Lodge.
