January 30, 1934 - May 11, 2025

Gernot Johann Patzelt, affectionately known as Max to his family and friends in Kitimat, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Delta, British Columbia, at the age of 91. He was born on January 30, 1934 in Freidwaldau, Germany.

Max was deeply devoted to both his family and his community. As the proud owner and operator of Max's Photo Studio, he captured decades of memories in Kitimat - from weddings and school portraits to community events, holidays, and sports. His lens also documented the industrial life of the region, including Allan, Kemano, Eurocan Pulp and Paper, and Ocelot (Methanex).

Beyond photography, Max was a passionate outdoorsman who found joy and peace in nature. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and spending time in the great outdoors with family and friends. He was also known for his skill in the kitchen especially his baking, which brought warmth to many gatherings. Above all, Max was proud of his family, cherishing every moment with his loved ones.

He also gave generously of his time as a volunteer firefighters, and through his involvement with the Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus, and Kitimat City Council. His dedication, optimism, and community spirit left a lasting impact on those around him.

Max is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Isobel Patzelt; his daughters Erica Patzelt (Kari Juustila) and Susan Patzelt (Mike Anderson); and his cherished grandchildren Jenna and Cāllum Anderson.

A celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Kitimat, British Columbia.
