Frederick Herbert Schooley

(1932 - 2008) of Osoyoos, passed away

on Monday, May 12, 2008 at the age of 75 years,

with Kay and Mark by his side.

Fred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kay, his daughter Sandy (Tim) Campbell, son Randy (Robin), and son Mark. Sadly, he was predeceased by his daughter Donna-Jean on August 4, 2006. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jessie, Shannon, and Aidan.

Fred played hockey and baseball almost all his life. He was a paratrooper who fought in the front lines with the PPCLI in Korea. Upon discharge, he found work in Kitimat. He left there in 1959 and worked in construction all over BC, returning to Kitimat in 1964. Fred ran Schooley’s Sports from 1979 to 1992. In 1995, he moved to Osoyoos. Ill health stopped his forty-year passion of coaching hockey to children of all ages. He was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. He said he plans to keep his glasses on wherever he goes as he is sure he will find a Keno board somewhere.

A memorial service will be held in the Osoyoos Legion Hall at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008. No flowers by request. Donations can be made to the Minor Hockey Association of your choice.
