Forever in our hearts
It is with great sadness that the family of Erland Andreas Sander announce his passing on February 20, 2022. Forever loved by his wife of 55 years, Lillian; daughter, Kirsten (Tim); and grandsons, Zachary and Brock. Erland was predeceased by his parents Sebjorn and Martha and siblings, Hans and Aslaug.
It is not easy to summarize a man that lived such a long and fulfilling life. A true gentleman that always greeted you with a handshake. A man who showed his great strength and love for his family right until his final days.
Erland was born in Lier Norway on September 24, 1929, the youngest of three children. He had a passion for sports and the outdoors. When Erland came to Kitimat in 1957 he was right at home. In the early days he spent his time hiking up Claque Mountain with his skiis on his back enjoying a few "skols" with good friends. From the badminton court, to the soccer field or the golf course, Erland was always active. Family time was skiing at the cabin in Smithers and any other free time was on the road with the Kitimat Ice Demons. Erland worked for the Northern Sentinel Press for 37 years. He spent his retirement years golfing and traveling and making many cherished memories with his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons; watching them play hockey and grow as young men. He was a very proud Papa and a one of a kind dad.
We wish to thank our family and friends for the tremendous support, caring and generosity. To honor Erlands wishes, there will be no service. He will be laid to rest at the family plot in Norway. If you wish to make a donation in Erlands name, it can be made to the Mountainview Lodge.
