Erkki (Eric) Lasanen


Erkki (Eric) Lasanen, 88, passed away peacefully at his Kitimat home on July 2, 2013. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 33 years, Angelina (Angie); his children Kari (Dianne), Rita Dykstra (Garry), Ruth Sauthier-Lasanen (Gerard); Irene Ormsby (Don†), Kirsti Christoff (Henry) and Timo (Natalie); twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Born and raised in Kuusamo, Finland, Eric was a veteran of the Finnish Army having served his country during WWII. Eric immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his first wife and young son. In 1975, Eric moved to Kitimat and secured a job at Alcan as a journeyman carpenter. An active member of the community with a passion for sports, Eric organized the Finnish Canadian Sports & Recreation Club. As its first president, he coached award winning cross country skiing and biathlon sports teams.

Mass was held to honour Eric at Kitimat Christ the King Catholic Church on Saturday, July 5, 2013. Memorial/Prayer Service will be held at the Gardens of Gethsemani, 15800 – 32nd Ave., Surrey, BC on Friday, August 9/13 at 12:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kitimat Christ the King Catholic Church improvement fund.
