It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eirwen. "I" passed unexpectedly in her home on January 23, 2018. She was predeceased in 2014 by Art, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by son Alastair, daughter-in-law Jane, and grandson Austin. She is also survived by her sister Cynthia (John) and numerous nephews and nieces.
Eirwen was born in Llangollen, Wales in 1939 but moved to Wallasey, England shortly after. She lived in England until 1964 when she immigrated to Canada with her husband Arthur and son Alastair who was four years old at the time. The couple resided in Kitimat, BC until 2009. Eirwen spent her years in Kitimat raising a family and working as a payroll timekeeper for Alcan Aluminum Smelters Inc. She worked at Alcan from 1968 until 1994 when she retired.
In her retired years, Eirwen was heavily involved in the church and was a volunteer at the Kitimat Food Bank. She loved to camp and enjoy her time with old friends. Both she and Art were long time members of the Royal Canadian Legion and cared very deeply about the organization and all for which it stood.
In 2009, they moved to Salmon Arm, BC. Eirwen enjoyed community involvement as a volunteer at the Silverbacks hockey games and supporting the local S.P.C.A. In her last year, she achieved her lifelong dream of travelling to a tropical location, parasailing, and swimming with dolphins.
Eirwen was a very social person and her family and friends were deeply important to her. She was fortunate to have a network of caring people whom she loved dearly. She will be remembered as honest, giving, trusting, and generous to a fault. She was fondly regarded by all who knew her.
In keeping with Eirwen's long-standing wish, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the Salmon Arm SPCA. The family would like to express gratitude to all who have offered support in this difficult time.
