Dorothy Blanche Brassard

July 29, 1931 to July 17, 2016

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our dear Dorothy. She left this world in the same way she lived her life, with dignity and grace.Dorothy has joined her beloved husband Gilbert, her mom and dad, and all her siblings. She continues on in the hearts of her immediate family: son Gar-ry, daughter-in-law Elaine Hepburn, grandson Calem; daughter Julie, son-in-law John Krotez, grandson Daymon Krotez. There are countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will remember her kind and compassionate way.Dorothy was born in North Battleford and raised in the small farming community of Albertville, Saskatche-wan. Her ÿ ve older siblings taught her everything from driving a school bus to being a ÿ ne seamstress. Dor-othy, deeply faithful, stayed true to the virtuous teach-ings she received from the neighbouring church and convent. In 1957 Dorothy married Gilbert. Their adventures to-gether began in the newly established town of Kitimat, BC. They were a lovely couple, generous and kind; committed to family, church, and friends; and always ready for a road trip. As well as being quiet and hum-ble, Dorothy was talented and determined and had many interesting jobs such as being one of the original BC Tel phone operators.Helping friends and family came naturally and she en-gaged in numerous volunteer activities such as deliv-ering meals-on-wheels. In 1995 Dorothy and Gil retired in Parksville where their circle of friends continued to grow and their grandchildren were more easily spoiled.Recently, Dorothy embraced her new life in Stanford assisted living in Parksville. She enjoyed her new friendships, the staff, the music and laughter. We will remember Dorothy as a lovely and rare gar-den blossom. We will hold dear her precious smile, the twinkle in her eye, and how much she cared about us all. Ever sweet, generous, and compassionate even in her ÿ nal days, she left us with the gift of serenity.A funeral mass was held on Dorothy’s birthday Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10:00am at Church of the Ascension,˜887 Wembley Road, Parksville, BC˜with a reception to follow.
