A Father, A Papa, A Friend
I’m here today with a few words to say,
about a Father, a Papa, a friend.
And in these lines of simple rhymes
I hope your hearts can mend.
Your hearts are sad and you feel so bad
as you feel this mournful pain.
You’ll need time to heal
so you can feel some happiness again.
Remember your Dad and the joy he had
in all the things he used to do.
He was a farming lad and trucking dad
Even rode a rodeo or two.
He loved to jive and he loved to drive
to be a trucker it was his call.
From chunk trucks to dump trucks
by Gawd he drove them all.
From lacing skates to crossing home plates
he was a sportsman through and through.
The love of the game, some would claim
he’s passed it on to you.
There’ll be days ahead where tears you’ll shed,
and you’ll think you won’t make it through
but cherish the things your memory brings
and then you won’t feel so blue.
As time goes by your tears will dry,
your heart will slowly mend,
and in a while you’ll begin to smile
for the pain will surely end.
And when comes the day you’re taken away
from this world to another plain,
with God’s great grace, you’ll be embraced
by your father once again.
