It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Angus' sudden passing from a pre-existing heart condition. Angus was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Isabel MacLeod, and his sister and brother-in law, Marion and Harold Haug. Angus will be fondly remembered by his wife April, children Rob (Joanne) and Maureen (Pat), and granddaughter Winter as well as extended family and friends.
Angus was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. He moved to Kitimat for work in June of 1969 and he met April in 1970. They were married in 1976. He worked at Eurocan in the wood mill before eventually moving to the steam plant as a 4th class steam engineer. Angus retired from Eurocan in 2004.
Angus was actively involved in the community as his children grew up. When Kitimat Youth Soccer required a coach for Rob's soccer team, Angus agreed to coach...having never played a game of soccer in his life. This led to Angus coaching teams for both Rob and Maureen for numerous years. Angus' volunteer involvement continued throughout the years. He was a proud and active member of both the Kitimat Seniors Centre and Kitimat Emergency Support Services.
Following his retirement, Angus turned his focus to his passion for writing. Angus self-published two books of children's stories, The Wee Folk and Gone to Toodoggone which were filled with tales that he had been telling for years. In 2017 Angus won the John W. Bilsland literary fiction award for his short story "The Great Skeena Street Scoop-Off and Barbeque of 1983". In 2019 two of his short stories were nationally published in Patterns and Our Town.
Angus was a friendly, caring, selfless man who was always willing to help and loved to give gifts of kindness, such as his deliveries around town of purple heather each year at Christmas. He enjoyed sharing rocks, crystals, and hard candies with everyone that he met. Angus will be truly missed by all who knew him.
At his request, there will be no memorial service. Donations may be made in Angus' name to either the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or your local food bank.
