March 8, 1935 - May 22, 2024
In loving memory ~
Alfreda (Vera) Ramin, 89, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024. Vera was born on March 8, 1935 to parents Samuel Ross and Elizabeth Reece. Vera grew up in the Kitimat Village spending time up and down the coast such as Butedale, Alert Bay and Bella Bella to name a few.
In the summer of 65 Vera married her lifelong partner Dieter Ramin. Together they had 3 children: Terry, Ramona and Kim. She spent time working at the Miller Bay Hospital. In the late 7O's, you would find her heading the children's department for Fields during the weekdays. Her knife skills came from the countless hours in the fish plant where she finally retired from J.S. McMillan. Her family meant the world to her and her grandchildren sparked a light in her eyes. There were many of Sunday dinners with family spent in one of her favorite places, her back yard. She made a mean stroganoff and let's not forget her fried bread. She had a love for traditional foods (oolichans, salmon, roe on kelp and dried fish). She was often boasting about Kitimat grease being the best.
She was grateful for all the folks that dropped this goodness off at her door. She passed the tradition of processing fish on to her children and grandchildren. A skill that will passed on for generations to come. She was not shy of skills. Her hands were busy knitting blankets and crocheting clothes and when they weren't doing that you could find a deck of cards in them for a game of solitaire or gin rummy around the kitchen table with family and friends. Let's not forget how she admired her animals which were always close by soaking up her love. She was a tough cookie living to the ripe old age of 89, surviving tuberculosis, residential school, a motel fire and many a curve balls life threw her way. She died of natural causes and with no bionic parts to boot! She was fortunate to spend her days in the home she loved up until the end, thanks to the support of her family. She will be deeply missed by all.
Vera is survived by her daughters Kim (Mike), Ramona, Jane, Lorraine and sons Terry (Leah) and James. There will be no service as these were her wishes. She also leaves behind many grandchildren Shauna, Steven, Klinton, Carmen, Alex, Alissa and Nathan. She was fortunate to nurture and share her love with many great grandchildren.
