April 3, 1927 - April 6, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Alcina Couto, Vavo, Nandi-Vavo, Vavo Cane, aunt, sister and friend on April 6, 2019 at Mountainview Lodge surrounded by her loving family.

Alcina was pre-deceased by her husband Julio in May, 2009 and leaves behind her 4 children: George (Anastasia), Maria (Nuno), Mike (Tina), Zelia (Alan). 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: one brother and many nieces and nephews and special friends.

Alcina was born in Achadinha, Acores, and was the youngest of 5 girls and 3 brothers. She married her childhood sweetheart Julio on Sept 27, 1952. Julio immigrated to Canada in 1954, and in 1957 Alcina joined him with 2 small children and later 2 more children were born in this great community. Kitimat became her home for the next 62 years. Alcina and Julio were one of the first founding Portuguese families. Her family was her pride and joy.

In April of 2018, Alcina could no longer be at home and entered Mountainview Lodge and was there until her passing. All would comment on how happy she was there. This made us all at ease. There was always a smile. We are grateful for all the staff that cared for her and made her last year memorable.

The Couto, Torres, and Marleau families would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming love and support, flowers, food and kindness that has been shown to us during this most difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Mills, Dr. Feenan and the staff of Mountainview Lodge, Christ the King Church, MacKay's Funeral Service. A special thank you to our special friends and family. Your love and support is continuous and appreciated.
