May 3, 1935 - December 4, 2020
Albert passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was born in Leiden, The Netherlands, and grew up in a large family as an adventurous boy, eventually emigrating to Canada as a young man. He and Mary made a life in Kitimat, raising three daughters, Alice, Sandra & Sylvia and enjoying their seven grandchildren as Opa and Oma.
Albert worked for Alcan since 1956, starting in the potlines and eventually becoming the Superintendent of Training and Safety until retiring in 1994. Albert was active throughout retirement- continuing to grow and tend to a large garden, volunteering for Kitimat Hospice Society and the Child Development Centre.
He was an devoted member of Kitimat Presbyterian Church as he served as an elder for many years. With all these accomplishments, Albert always put his family first by being a loving husband, father and Opa.
Predeceased by daughter Sylvia (Andrew) McIntosh in 2009 and wife Mary in 2017, Albert is survived by his daughters Alice (Paul) Lutz and Sandra (Steve) Boulianne, grandchildren Jennifer, Jeremy (Meagan) Cameron (Ileah) Lutz, Seth (Faith), Zach, Chloe (Sam) Boulianne and Emily McIntosh as well as a brother and two sisters in Holland.
We would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff of Mountainview Lodge where Albert lived since 2018.
"You can always tell a Dutchman but you can't tell him much."
A memorial service will be held in Kitimat at a later date.
