Work remains ahead of schedule on the Haisla Bridge replacement project according to David Collings, chief project officer for Collings Johnston Inc.

Collings gave a presentation on the status of the project on March 31 at the Chalet Inn and Restaurant in Kitimat. He was joined by Dustin Saran Construction Manager Ledcor-Haisla Limited Partnership and Alex Ramos-Espinoza, District of Kitimat Director of Engineering Services.

Construction on the replacement project began in June 2021, with the completion date slated for April 2023.

The new bridge will feature improvements for pedestrians. The project is to replace the current structure due to it nearing its operational lifespan.

The bridge will host an illuminated 2.5 metre sidewalk on the south end of the bridge with pedestrian connection on either side of the crossing, said David Collings, chief project officer for Collings Johnstone Inc.

During the presentation, Saran outlined upcoming activities including, superstructure installation, utility relocates and road widening.
