(VIDEO) Funeral for Moncton RCMP officers; B.C. communities honour victims

More than 5,000 officers from around Canada were expected to attend Tuesday's funeral in New Brunswick.

The caskets for the three RCMP officers killed in last week's shootings in Moncton lay side-by-side at a funeral in New Brunswick on Tuesday.


The funeral service was held in New Brunswick on Tuesday for the three RCMP officers who were shot and killed last week in Moncton.

More than 5,000 police officers from around the country were expected to attend, as well as all three of Canada's major federal party leaders. The service is being held at Moncton's Coliseum.

Across B.C., RCMP detachments held their own tributes and marches to honour the victims in Moncton – Const. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, Const. Douglas James Larche, and Const. Dave Joseph Ross.

In Kelowna, mourners joined together at Trinity Baptist Church, dressed in red.

"We welcome you and we thank you for being here," said Pastor Tim Schroeder. "It really matters... The events of this week have demonstrated how vitally important it is that we support (the RCMP) in every way possible."

In Prince Rupert, RCMP officers marched through the city's downtown, just prior to the funeral services in New Brunswick for the three constables.

Revelstoke RCMP paid tribute to their fallen brethren, with a memorial service starting at 11 a.m.

"To the families of Const. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, and Const. Douglas James Larche and Const. David Ross, we will always be with them," said David Wilks, the MP for Kootenay-Columbia and a retired RCMP officer.

"Canadians will hold them in their thoughts and prayers in the days, weeks and months to come."

In Penticton, B.C., the RCMP is inviting the public to sign its book of condolences, which will be available until June 13 at 5 p.n.

After that, the Penticton RCMP will forwarding the book to Moncton's detachment on behalf of the B.C. community.
