The building inspection department report for the first two months of 2011 show 63 demolition permits have been issued against just five building permits.

Senior building inspector Peter Brock explained the sudden rise in demolition reflects work going on or planned for the Rio Tinto Alcan smelter modernisation project and the tear down of the old methanol plant on the former Methanex site, now owned by Cenovus.
