RCMP officers are at Skeena Middle School and Caledonia Secondary today following what’s being described as a “low-level risk event” stemming from a social media post Sept. 15.

“The safety and well-being of all our students and staff is paramount and events of this nature are taken seriously,” a letter to parents and guardians from Skeena Middle School principal Darlene Bragg-Hounsell indicated Sept. 15.

She said the assessment of a low level risk came from the RCMP and a student safety agency called Safer Schools Together which contracts out to schools in North America.

The nature of the social media message was not detailed.

Skeena Middle School was also the subject of what school authorities said was a “vague threat” this past June while two threats were investigated in May 2019 and one in January 2018.
