Shames Mountain is closed today (Feb. 4) due to a collision involving school bus and another vehicle on the road leading to the ski area, off Hwy 16.

No injuries were reported by Coast Mountain School District 82 (CMSD) and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) attended the scene.

According to BCEHS, one paramedic unit responded and one patient was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The CMSD school bus was on its way to Shames Mountain and was around five kilometres uphill when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction lost control and rammed into the front of the bus, said Janet Meyer, CMSD superintendent.

There were 23 Ecole Mountainview students on the bus plus other staff, all of whom have been reported to be safe said Meyer. Another bus has been sent to retrieve the students and staff, who will be brought back to Terrace.

The road leading to Shames Mountain is closed in both directions due to the incident and poor road conditions. There is no estimated time of re-opening yet.
