What was thought to be a search for a missing person turned out to be a false alarm after a car crash at the Dyke Road and Giant Spruce Road intersection early Wednesday morning.

Kitimat Search and Rescue (KSAR) said they were called in by Kitimat RCMP around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday to search for one presumed missing person after a car crashed and subsequently caught fire after driving off the road.
Six KSAR members searched both ditches and the surrounding treed areas along the Dyke Road, but had no results. KSAR stopped their search around 7:30 a.m., and it was later determined that there hadn’t been a third occupant in the car.
Kitimat RCMP said that the two people in the car brought themselves to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. They said alcohol was believed to be involved in the situation.
RCMP were unable to comment at this time why there was initially thought to be a third person in the car.
