RCMP dares students to say no

The children learn about the effects of tobacco and alcohol on the body

Kitimat RCMP have been active in the schools in town this year teaching the DARE program. Const. Rebekah Draht said the DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is run over two weeks at each school, Monday to Friday. The children learn about a number of issues, including the effects of tobacco and alcohol on the body, how to deal with peer pressure and stress, dealing with bullying, and good communication. “This year we taught in Kitamaat Village, at Kildala and Nechako. We do everything from skits to interactive games,” said Draht. On March 27 a graduation ceremony is being held for all three schools.
