The public will have their say in choosing an applicant to design a new mural in Kitimat.

The mural will be created in the Kitimat city core sometime this year.

“We will work out [when the mural will go up] with the successful artist, we’re hoping to get it up mid-July or early August, we want to get it done right away,” said Laurel D’Andrea, executive director, Kitimat Chamber of Commerce.

D’Andrea hopes to present the winner to council in early July.

There are currently four applicants that have been shortlisted by the Kitimat Public Art Alliance, each applicant has been asked to provide 250 words describing what kind of mural they want to create. Voting will take place from June 24 until July 3 and can be done either in person or online. Starting on June 24 the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce will launch the vote on their website and those that want to vote in person can get a ballot at the M Star Hotel and The Corner Stone during normal operating hours.

According to D’Andrea, they will not be revealing the artists’ names, people will be voting based on the designs.
