District of Kitimat
The District of Kitimat has experienced a year of positive economic activity.
Over the last year, major industries within the community have made significant strides on various projects — Rio Tinto Alcan with the completion of the Kemano Hydropower Project, LNG Canada preparing to move into Phase 2 and Cedar LNG receiving their Environmental Assessment certificate. As a result, we have seen unemployment drop by 2.6 per cent. Residential properties have an increased value of 5 per cent for single-family residences and 17 per cent for strata residential properties.
Commercial building permit values have risen over the last year, indicating more commercial development within the community. Through the recently established Commercial Centre Revitalization program, the District hopes to incentivize even more improvements to commercial properties within the community. The community is also excited to welcome a new yoga studio, Vida Studio, in the heart of our city centre.
