The new mural in Kitimat’s downtown core will be created by Chris Fraser following a public vote.
The vote began on June 24 and took place until July 3 and people had the opportunity to have their say both online and in person. In total there were 947 votes cast and Laurel D’Andrea, co-chair of the Kitimat Public Art Alliance (KPAA) was out in the community encouraging people to vote.
“I heard from people in the community and they said it was hard to decide as they liked all the designs,” she said. “I liked the fact that people thought they were all good.”
At the time of voting, the four designs were presented to the public without the names of the artists and residents voted based on design alone.
The next steps for the mural will see KPAA reaching out to Fraser to set up a Zoom call to see when they can begin putting the mural up.
