Pacific Northern Gas has reported a pressure drop in its pipeline between Terrace and Prince Rupert.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, the pipeline began experiencing trouble, but there have been no gas service interruptions. PNG is requesting its Prince Rupert customers reduce their use of natural gas — hot water, heating — until the company has the opportunity to complete any necessary repairs.
At this time Terrace and Kitimat customers have not been affected.
In an updated press release, PNG said they have been able to complete an inspection of the pipeline and — weather permitting — begin repairs.
“PNG is doing everything possible right now to avert an outage,” Andrianne Lovric, manager of communications for AltaGas said, adding the winter storm that caused the Highway 16 closure complicates their efforts.
“The area of concern is challenging under normal conditions, so given the amount of snow that has fallen, PNG is inspecting and will have further updates later today.”
