Kitimat RCMP are once again warning people to be wary of phone fraud attempts.

This follows a report received Dec. 21 from a local resident saying she had received a phone call from from someone being described as being from the “RCMP”.

The caller advised the woman she was being investigated for fraud and would be arrested unless she sent them money.

“The person on the phone told the female her social insurance number and that she was not allowed to tell anyone about what happened,” a press release from the Kitimat RCMP indicated.

RCMP say residents should be aware of scams such as these and not to send money to unknown people.

Residents receiving calls like the above should contact the Kitimat RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501).
