75-year-old U.S. man killed in Hwy 16 crash between Terrace, Prince Rupert

A 75-year old U.S. man has died following a fatal collision on Hwy 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert.

Police responded to the single-vehicle collision on Nov. 27 around 12:40 p.m. near the 90km marker of Hwy 16, west of Terrace.

The driver was travelling eastbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle, drove into the ditch and hit the rockface near Exchamsiks River Bridge.

Police arrived on scene shortly after Terrace fire department, who had extracted the driver from the vehicle. The man succumbed to his injuries while on route to hospital by ambulance.

The only other occupant in the car was a dog, who was uninjured from the crash.

Foggy and rainy conditions that day are thought to have been contributing factors.

Traffic was closed in both directions on the highway during the police investigation.
