Noise complaints of various kinds have occupied Kitimat RCMP officers lately, judging from incidents recorded at the RCMP detachment for the week of June 17 to June 23.
On June 17 at 9:31 p.m., Kitimat RCMP received a report of a motorhome that had been creating noise regularly at night in the 500 block of City Centre.
Police attended, spoke with the registered owner, suggesting a different location might be less disruptive.
The registered owner acknowledged the complaint and took the suggestion as police observed them leave the area.
Erratic Driver
On June 17 Kitimat RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 37 near Cecil Creek. Police attended the area, conducted patrols with a negative result.
Disturbance
On June 18 at 12:58 a.m., Kitimat RCMP were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the Kootenay St area. The caller reported hearing screaming and banging.
Police attended, located a person who was upset and determined that a medical assessment was necessary. Police were able to assist with transport to the local hospital where the person received medical care.
Loud Music
On June 18 at 4:52 a.m., Kitimat RCMP received a report of loud music coming from a residence on Starling St. Police attended, could clearly hear the music coming from inside that residence and spoke with the person who identified themselves as the homeowner.
Police kindly reminded them of the 24-hour noise bylaw in Kitimat. The homeowner acknowledged and advised they would turn the music down.
Fisheries Licence
Check
On June 18 at 11:54 a.m. Kitimat RCMP officer conducted checks under the Fisheries Act at the beach area near Giant Spruce Park.
Police observed many people fishing in that area, checking all for current licences.
Police remind the public to have the correct fishing licence when partaking in the activity.
Residential Alarm
On June 18 at 2:07 p.m., Kitimat RCMP responded to a residential alarm on Rainbow Blvd. The residence and outbuildings were secure. False by attendance.
Commercial Alarm
On June 18 at 5:57 p.m., Kitimat RCMP responded to a commercial alarm in the 300 block of City Centre. Police conducted perimeter checks, observed no damage and nothing suspicious. Deemed false by attendance.
Immediate Roadside
Prohibition
On June 18 at 9 p.m., Kitimat RCMP officer observed a vehicle heading northbound on S Lahakas Blvd driving at a slow speed and indicating their turn late.
Police conducted a traffic stop, the driver presented with indications of liquor impairment. A roadside impaired investigation commenced. The driver provided suitable samples for analysis by the approved screening device, both with a “FAIL” result.
The driver was advised that they were prohibited from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Police remind anyone who chooses to consume alcohol or cannabis, please plan your ride home.
Two Vehicle
Collision
On June 19 at 4;17 p.m., Kitimat RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at Tsimshian Blvd and Haisla Blvd. Police investigated the collision. No injuries reported.
False Medical Assist
Alarm
On June 19 at 5:43 p.m., Kitimat RCMP received a request from EHS to assist at a residence on Meldrum St for a medical alarm.
Police attended and it was determined that the alarm system was malfunctioning, there were no health concerns.
False by attendance.
Found Drug
Paraphernalia
On June 20 at 2:02 p.m., Kitimat RCMP received a report of found drug items in a yard on Plover St. Police attended and disposed of the drug paraphernalia located inside.
Structure Fire
On June 22 at 3:17 p.m. Kitimat RCMP received a request from Kitimat Fire Department to assist with a structure fire in the 1300 block of Tweedsmuir Ave.
Police assisted in ensuring the surrounding townhomes were unoccupied. Police remained on scene to ensure public safety until released by Kitimat Fire. No further police action was required.
Mischief
On June 23 at 1:00 a.m. Kitimat RCMP received a report of youths on the roof of the condemned buildings near Nechako Centre.
Police attended the area, located a group of six youths walking toward Nechako School. The youths denied being on the roof, indicating they saw a group up there making noise.
Police located a pallet that was used to climb up to the roof and removed it from the area in the hope that it would prevent any further occurrences.
