Residents of Kitimat woke up early this morning to a power outage. The power was first reported by BC Hydro at 6:19 a.m.

BC Hydro reported that the outage was affecting residents south of Alexander Ave., northeast of Alcan Rd., and west of Hwy 37.

There were a reported 1414 customers without power during this outage. Residents on social media reported power flickering in various parts of the city along with power going out in Cable Car.

BC Hydro investigated the outage to determine the exact cause.

“We suspect something intermittent like a tree or branch made contact, causing the outage, but then fell clear on its own as crews did not find anything obvious on their patrol of the line,” said David Mosure, northern community relations coordinator.

The power was eventually restored at 9:30 a.m.
