A fundraising initiative is underway in Kitimat to support Ukraine.

Bakers without Borders for Ukraine is hosting a bake sale to help those affected by the violence taking place in Ukraine following an invasion by Russia that began in late February.

The dessert fundraiser includes a dessert box and costs $50, all the proceeds will be going to aid the humanitarian effort.

“This is our second bake sale, a couple of weeks ago we did a cupcake and muffin sale,” said Maria Gutknecht, bake sale organizer. “We did extremely well so the girls thought why don’t we do a little desert in a box to do our part for the Ukrainian war.”

Some of the items include coconut raspberry bars, turtle bars, black forest mini bundt cake, smores cheesecake bars, lemon square and many more.

“There’s possibly 10 of us and everyone is going to bake what they’re good at, so the choice is going to be incredible and so is the presentation,” said Gutknecht.

Orders can be placed through Facebook by messaging Julia Wakita and Facebook Marketplace. Pick-up for the items will be taking place on Saturday, April 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. Payments can be made by Etransfer or when people pick up their dessert boxes.

The deserts are not allergy safe and contain nuts.
