Kitimat Search and Rescue (KSAR) located a missing person following a report of a missing kayaker.

Kitimat RCMP tasked Search and Rescue late in the evening on June 24 regarding a missing kayaker on the Kitimat River. A solo kayaker did not show up at the predetermined pick-up spot.

The kayak had been spotted and the location of it was determined, however where the missing person was remained unknown.

At first light Kitimat search and rescue dispatched and were able to locate and extract the missing person from the river bank around 4:30 a.m., on June 24. Terrace Swift Water Team was also on standby if needed.

According to a KSAR post there is a red kayak partially submerged upside down in the Kitimat River about 600 metres above the sawmill boat launch and residents are advised to leave it where it is.
