Update:

Kitimat RCMP have provided an “all clear” regarding the vague digital threat that was received on Dec. 8.

Kitimat schools have been informed to cease their hold and secure measure.

School District 82 would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this unforeseen event.

Original Story:

Schools in Kitimat have been placed under a hold and secure situation this morning after Kitimat RCMP alerted school district officials that there was a vague digital threat made on Dec. 8, according to Coast Mountains School District 82.

Kitimat RCMP, Safer Schools Together, school district personnel and school administration are all working together to resolve the issue.

The hold and secure means that school is continuing to operate as normal, however, doors are all locked, recess and lunch will be held inside the school.

A post on School District 82’s website states that parents and guardians will be notified further through the school and district website and a letter will also be distributed to all students before the end of the day for parents to see.

If students do feel concerned about the situation they are encouraged to see one of the school’s counsellors. Concerned parents or guardians of a student at one of the Kitimat schools can contact school administration if they have further questions or concerns.
