Kitimat Saax to play against Burns Lake Timbermen on Oct.29

Inaugural game of the GMHL junior hockey season will be held at Tamitik Arena

The inaugural game of the Kitimat Saax junior hockey team will be held at the Tamitik Arena on Oct.29.

The Saax will be playing their first game against the Burns Lake Timbermen. Opening ceremonies and puck drop will start 7: 30 p.m.

In Sept. the Saax unveiled their bright blue jersey which portrays Mount Elizabeth on the torso and have the bear logo featured prominently on the chest. The design was meant to represent the people of Kitimat, with Saax borrowed from the Haisla’s language, meaning bear.

The inaugural season which was originally set to commence late Sept. was pushed to Oct. end after a clash between GMHL and Hockey Canada. GMHL had said back then that Hockey Canada was taking an “aggressive stance” towards anyone associated with unsanctioned leagues.
