Kitimat Museum and Archives seeking feedback on shared facility and strategic plan

The new shared facility would be 20,000 square feet

The Kitimat Museum and Archives is currently seeking feedback on a shared facility with the Haisla Nation. The museum is also seeking community input for its strategic plan for 2020 to 2030

On Apr. 27 the Haisla Nation Council voted unanimously to explore a shared facility with the Kitimat Museum and Archives. The current museum facility is no longer adequate and the ageing building is facing some issues. Some of the main concerns that need to be addressed include the need for more capacity as there is currently size constraints.

The facility also has leaking issues as there are cracks in the concrete. In addition, air quality is also an issue as the air intake from the roadside of the building pulls in exhaust from idling vehicles.

The proposed new shared facility would be 20,000 square feet, giving more room to accommodate cultural belongings.

All the information for the 2020 to 2030 strategic plan can be found on the museum’s website.

For residents looking to provide feedback, a page has been created with relevant information as well as a form to fill out to have your say.
